Release to: Coach Journals
Date: March 2010
Title: World Cup bus stolen
Pretoria, one of Autopax’s 160 brand new World Cup buses worth 2.8 million has been stolen before the Company got a tracking device fitted.Security was limited at Autopax’s Pretoria depot with only two armed guards watching the buses, which surprisingly had their keys in them.
The new Mercedes-Benz, one of a fleet of 570 that Autopax ordered for the World Cup had yet to be painted in the offical colours. Now we wondered how someone could steal a bus and get away with something so big. The vehicle was apparently signed out for what is believed to be for a test drive but never returned. Autopax is part of the passeneger Rail Agency (Prassa). They are responsible for Fifa’s accommodation and hospitality agent and local organising committee Match. Also they will be looking after genral transport for soccer fans.
